Water Project BD/Uvakella Tamil Vidyalayam

Providing Clean Water Access for Rural School Students

Project Overview

BD/Uvakella Tamil Vidyalayam is a school located in the rural area of Madulsima, Badulla District, serving 137 students from families engaged in tea work. These students face a significant daily challenge: access to clean and safe drinking water. We are seeking support to address this critical issue by upgrading the school's outdated and frequently damaged water connection, ensuring that students have reliable access to the water they need for their health and well-being.

Current Situation

The school's only source of water is a mountain spring located 1.5 kilometres away, connected to the school by an old, makeshift pipeline. This pipeline, which has been in place for over 15 years, is frequently damaged by passing vehicles and environmental factors, such as landslides or erosion, due to its exposure along rural roads. These damages often disrupt the water flow, leaving the school without drinking water for days at a time, and creating an unhealthy, stressful learning environment for students.

Project Solution

We are partnering with one of our local partners, Serendip Children Home, to make a comprehensive upgrade to the school's water connection system.
